For the third straight year, Potted Potter showcased its killer combination of magic, amazing expensive props 😛 ,  humor.. and yes, lots and lots of humor! And I heard, Philippines is the only country (outside of the U.K.) where Potted Potter was staged for three consecutive years! I think that pretty much says how much of a Harry Potter aficionado Filipinos are.

I’ve always wanted to watch this show back in 2012 and 2013, but time, money and proximity always get in the way and restrain me from watching. Now that I am working here, and thank God RCBC Plaza is just three blocks away from the office, I was able to finally witness the magical prowess and wit of popular US comedic duo Ben Stratton and James Percy!

WHAT IS POTTED POTTER?

For the uninitiated, Potted Potter is a parody stage play that condenses all seven Harry Potter books into seventy hilarious minutes. Well strictly not seventy, as the show ended at around 3:30pm. But who’s complaining? We were in for a really really great treat from the duo! It all started in 2005 when Olivier Award-nominated actors Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turners were asked to create a five-minute show to recap the first five Harry Potter stories, in front of fans waiting for the midnight release of the sixth installment Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The mini street show expanded into an hour-long performance and its fan base grew bigger and bigger as the years went by. Continue Reading →

I don’t intend to make this a long article, so allow me to emphasize my point right away:

STOP THE HATE ON GAY PEOPLE. IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO GROW UP.

I checked my Twitter last Thursday and noticed that #RespectFifth is a Trending Topic worldwide. For the uninitiated, Fifth Pagotan is a 22-year-old housemate of the hit ABS-CBN reality show Pinoy Big Brother. Apparently, Fifth admitted to Big Brother that he is a ‘bisexual’. It came as no surprise to me as I already noticed it the moment he entered the house at the start of the season. But given his ‘boy-next-door’ looks, his ‘coming out’ was something I never saw coming.. on national television at that!

Out of curiosity, I checked what other people were saying about Fifth’s confession. There were the occasional “I’m so proud of you Fifth” and “I support you Fifth” from fellows and his fans. But to my surprise, I also noted some harsh comments from the all-encompassing, always-right-they-never-go-wrong, theyre-so-clean-like-they-drink-eight-glasses-of-casino-alcohol-everyday religious people. Some said:

1. They can ‘treat’ and ‘work’ on Fifth

2. Sayang si Fifth, nagpaka-bading!

2. Fifth needs to go back to the right path or he will be denied by God

3. What a shame, a good-looking guy turns out to be gay

My blood pressure level went up upon reading the remarks of some people.

While it is true that we are entitled to our own opinion, I believe it’s an entirely different scenario when one’s remarks lambast or mock other people. Continue Reading →

*Before I get bombarded with questions as to how and where to buy the book, lemme just clarify the book is for sale for one thousand USD and can be bought directly from me. Of course, I’m kidding. Haha I already asked Seb about it before and he clarified that no such book exists (at least on our knowledge) and that the book is a mere props for the music video. So wag na kayong umasang macoconvert nio mga crushes nio. Hahaha.

For the uninitiated, Sebastian Castro is a Peruvian-Japanese model and singer who became famous back in 2012 when he released his first ever music video Bubble which made it to the Trending Topics list on Twitter and even dominated Facebook for quite some time. And in a few seconds, she hit and slammed the ball down there and Boom Gonzales was like: “AND THAT’S IT! ATENEO HAS DONE IT! THEY MADE HISTORY!”

I’m writing this post since I just can’t move on from yesterday’s epic volleyball match between Ateneo Lady Eagles and National University Lady Bulldogs in UAAP Season 76’s do-or-die semifinals match. We all witnessed an exciting showdown between two of the most loved and most powerful players in Philippine women’s volleyball history: NU’s Dindin Santiago and of course.. Ateneo’s Alyssa Valdez. I already ran out of words to properly describe Alyssa Valdez’s game but my previous post Alyssa Valdez and her rise to stardom will summarize what I have to say about this phenomenal Batangas native.

REBUILDING TEAM

At the start of the season, sports enthusiasts predicted the Ateneo Lady Eagles to flunk in the standings with the graduation of five of their starting six players in the persons of the famous Fab Five — Fille Cainglet – Cayetano, Gretchen Ho – Domingo (in the making LOL), Jem Ferrer, A Nacachi and Dzi Gervacio.  In fact, I wrote Farewell Ateneo’s Fab Five to express my thoughts which to this date, is the most read article of this blog. Their exit was definitely a big loss to the Ateneo community. To make the long story short, we started the season with little to no expectations.. AT ALL. In season 76, we saw new faces and bodies suited up for the Ateneo jersey, namely: Jia Morado, Michelle Morente, Kim Gequillana and Ana Gopico. Given that they’re rookies, many expect that it’s still gonna be an Alyssa Valdez-heavily laden show for the Ateneo de Manila University and that they might end up in the lower end of the rankings. We all waited for this to happen and we can actually see it beaming in the horizon already.. the rise of Philippine volleyball! What’s the perfect description for one Alyssa Valdez? Everybody asks.

It is no question  that Alyssa Valdez is this generation’s greatest Philippine volleyball player. Not to be mistaken as downplaying rival teams’ respective stars, (c’mon, I love Ara Galang of De La Salle Lady Spikers, Pau Soriano of Adamson University, sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago and Myla Pablo of National University) but I think her legions of fans would serve as the number one answer to anyone who would ask why she is currently the sport’s most talked-about and adored player. Super late post. I wrote this article last June but failed to publish this right away. So, hayaan nio na.  HAHAHA 😛

This is JAN – PATRIK B. LAROYA, CPA. (I’ve long wanted to post this. Finally, now I can! Haha)

As I write this, I still have a hangover from last night’s Ateneo CPA Convocation at F213 which was then continued at The Pinnacle Hotel. Not exaggerating or anything but, it is by far, THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. (read: BEST). Since I was in second year college, I always look forward to watching my ates and kuyas in their Convocation and tell myself that one day, I will be the one to walk in that red carpet. True enough. Last night, June 15, 2013 was OUR Convocation as new CPAs. And as I walked with my girl escort (oh yes a girl, sheeeshh :P) everything is just surreal.

How happy I was and how the event went? Let the pictures do the talking. *wink*

I arrived at Coiff It Up Salon Center at around 4pm then went straight to Ateneo Jacinto Campus and heard the 5:00pm Thanksgiving Mass. At around 6:30pm, the program started.
